PCI/PCIe Audio Card x1 Audio Card for Proxmox (Debian) and Linux VMs?

Hello,

Any suggestions for sound cards supported in both Debian linux and Windows?

I’ve got a Proxmox VM that needs good sound hardware for audio processing. I don’t need anything fancy: my focus is decoding live audio from software defined radio reception, which the built-in audio on a Raspberry Pi can do.

But I’ve discovered that without dedicated hardware, the multiple layers of hardware emulation/simulation involved in how kvm/Proxmox does things just kills audio.

The usual solution is to throw a whole GPU at the problem, but I don’t necessarily want to tie up my one GPU for this if I don’t have to.

Are there any options known to work?

What hardware do you actually need. A GPU for doing calculations, or audio hardware for hooking up to external audio sources? If you’re doing calculations, what software are you using?

If you need an audio card, I’d suggest getting a PCIe USB card and passing that through to the VM. Then you can buy whatever USB devices you need.
