PCI 1x Compatible in 16x slots?

Hey Guys quick question, I am at university and I have a wired connection however I'd like to be able to use my laptop wirelessly. I have an old Wireless card that I want to scavenge from an old desktop and put it into my tower pc, so it can host a private WiFi connection that I'm later able to connect my laptop up through and use it without having to constantly cable switch the ethernet.

MY ISSUE

I have a PCI-Express 1x Wireless card from my old pc, HOWEVER, my Graphics card is a double wide GPU, which, IRONICALLY covers the 1x slot, My question is, Is it possible that the PCI-Express 1x will work in a 16x slot without any issues? I would love to be able to use this card without buying a new wireless card (because even though I can pick one up for £10, I really can't afford to at this moment In time)

ALTERNATIVELY

OR, will it be possible to move my graphics Card to another 16x slot on my motherboard without losing any of the performance? I know its always prefferable to have the GPU in the top most 16x slot to give it the most possible 'bandwidth' (as I've always heard it reffered to) and I know that when running multiple GPU's typically the top slot will run in 16x and then the second slot will run 8x then 8x etc. though I'm not entirely sure that will apply here.

My Motherboard is the ASUS Republic of Gamers Crosshair V Formula.

Having BRIEFLY looked in my users guide I found this page talking about the PCI-Express 16x Slots and I believe it may be of some use to those of you that can help. Also, Below is a link to the online version of the User guie manual for easier navigation/assisting with this 'issue' I have at hand.

Thanks To anyone who is able to assist in anyway.

Yes it will. With zero issues.

So you reckon I could easily Shut down, Install the card and reboot without any issues?

You could try it, but there's a chance you'll start getting BSODs

If I did, i could just simply remove the card and then they would stop, correct (in the Ideal world)

Yep!

Fantastic, well, I will try it out now and let the world know my results :D

Yep. everything is now working fine, have a laptop thats getting internet connection shared to it via my desktop and no BSODs (as yet) Thanks Guyz!!!
