PC upgrade!

Hello everyone! So My dad picked up an old dell optiplex 755 pc a while back and its did it's part, I threw in my GT 430 Low profile in for a little unfff. Anyway we need more power, at lest my parents do, so I did some research and found that the intel core 2 quad Q6600 has the same socket has the aging Pentum E2160. So could i buy the $40 cpu and have it work? or would there be a compatibility issues? if so what would could/should i buy instead?

yes the socket 775 will support the Q6600 ...  and for $100 more ...

Q9650 (12M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) may also fit (would need mobo make & model #)

also recommend to add more ram in most instances ... prebuilt Dells often put the bare minimum of ram

I all ready add ram it up to 6gb

is that the max capacity?

I'm not sure. I took it out of this old pc we had.

If you can ... take off the side panel and get the make and model # of the mobo ... and I'll look up the specs for it
