Well I just got approved for a new place in a bit more of a rural community. It is now only a 25 minute drive to work instead of the old 45. The only issue I have found is there are no ISP’s willing to cover the area. I am 2.2 miles from town where there are several businesses with fiber, but not a single line to the neighborhood where I will be moving. I personally with be fine with satellite internet for downloading games and movies, but I will have to use mobile hotspot for descent latency. I know Starlink is coming down the pipes, but I am far enough south that I doubt I will have coverage until 2022.
So now my main question is, does anyone here have any experience setting up P2P service. I am not talking about for just myself. I know this is a business model in some areas to rent a plot, build a tower and sell connections to people in the rural areas of a community. I understand the basics of setting up p2p for personal use, but just wondered if anyone here had some experience with it on the business end.
My biggest concerns are:
- How do you get approval to even begin a business venture like this.
- How do you get funding.
- How do you prove to the funding party or parties that it will turn a profit.
- How do you segregate the network to ensure users aren’t able to snoop on their neighbors traffic.
- How do you go about getting the local area surveyed for feasibility of P2P (due to terrain) .
- Should I even bother?
Basically I don’t know anything about running a business or getting approval to build actual network infrastructure that services a community, therefor I look forward to your ridicule in the comments
