I've got an i7-3770k and a MSI Z77A-G45 Motherboard. The only overclock i have on it is the oc genie 4.2GHz. I honestly can't say I know how to overclock. I know that i have to increase the multiplier and voltage, but I can only find the multiplier in the bios. I know it may have another name, but don't know what the name is. Does anyone know what the voltage is called on MSI motherboards? Also, how do i know exactly what voltage/multiplier I need for my chip?
Try raising the multiplier first, and run it through a stability test. You should only have to raise voltage if your cpu doesn't stay stable. I have the g-43, and the only option I have for voltage control is offset. Kind of a bummer, but probably a good thing since I am playing with the non k version. If anything, leave voltage on auto. It might feed a bit more then what some would like, but should keep enough juice going to it.
I am assuming you have good cooling.
HWinFO64 is great for monitoring temputures, and intelburntest would work for stress testing. Watch the temps on intelburntest though. I run mine through intelburntest as a quick and dirty way to make sure I'm stable.
I've got a xigmatek dark knight and a fractal design arc midi r2 with lots of fans coming in ~1 week
