I have a 2010 Mac Mini that I am planing on selling. I wiped the hard drive and I am trying to reinstall OS X El Capitan. However, after selecting the drive to install on, a message appears saying "Signing in to the App Store..." and stays there indefinitely. I have contacted Apple support, but they weren't able to help and my (poor) google skills haven't led me to any answers. I'd really like to get this thing ready to sell without having to take it in to a service center. I'd greatly appreciate any help.
Here are some things to try:
Are you connected to the internet via ethernet? I've had issues relying on wifi using the installer in the past.
Verify your system clock is correct and keeping time after power loss and possibly reset SMC.
if you've upgraded your mac mini to firmware update 1.5 at some point, you should be able to perform an internet recovery by holding down Command+Option+R while connected to the internet via ethernet. If it worked you should see a globe icon instead of the apple logo at boot up.
there is also a serial issues reguarding the app store and reimaged mac products. might want to google that :p
I've tried over wifi and ethernet. Same problem with both.
I'll look into the other two. I tried to get into internet recovery but only over wifi. I'll try again with ethernet and see if I can find out where the firmware is at.
Thanks for the help!
I sure will. Thanks for the reply!
