"only real metalheads have long hair"

When you hear someone that is a part of the metal fandom say that, "Yeah, you're not a metal head because your hair isn't long enough", what do you think of this said metal fan? I guess part of the reason why I am asking is because I am having thoughts about cutting my hair. I have a lot of dreams that I want to follow and sadly enough, nobody will take me seriously in this world with long hair. But, at the same token, I don't want people in the metal community thinking that I am some sort of wannabe. Please do discuss your thoughts/ideas.

Well to be honest if it is what you really desire then you should not let anyone discourage you based upon your appearance.  I don't understand why you can't continue to  be a "metal head" and continue your profession of choice.  Have you tried tying your hair back into a tight pony tail? I have seen many people with long hair in many jobs with this style of hair, but of course it could have been that they had cut their hair and once they were established with the company they let their hair to continue to grow. Sort of the like the way when you first had a job there was no tattoos present but after some time getting comfortable with the employees and management, your tattoos makes no difference to who you are.

I guess I am suggesting that you cut your hair now and once you have made progress to your dreams then let your hair grow out.

I'm sure these Men would Disagree.

Rob Halford of "Judas Priest"

Jon Nödtveidt of "Dissection"

Ihsahn of "Emperor"

That is a ridiculous statement. But that is just my opinion.

Long hair =/= Metal.

can confirm, you'll be listening to top 40 exclusively within a month

i'm sure you can overcompensate by wearing all black/leather and showing off your band tattoos... don't forget the obligatory metal jewellery.

I think there is some truth to this, why else would you all want girls haircuts if not to show how metal you are?

That's right you bunch of girly boys!

Long hair =/= Metal

I have very long hair and I have had for more than 8 years now. Recently I have been applying for jobs and I have been taken completely seriously. I do keep it tidy, tied back and high. I also was studying science and lab work requires you have hair safe so I have bandannas which were completely accepted and applauded in some cases.

They were these, so slightly different and kept hair completely covered and restrained with out having to have it tied back or uncomfortable. http://www.buffwear.com/buff-adult-headwear/original-buff Funnily enough my mum now wears them while working in the kitchen, also does not like having her hair tied back and these are actually sold to chefs in the work wear catalogs.

Got off topic there for a minute. At the moment I was half contemplating cutting my hair but I am not any more. I like it too much and give too little shits what other people think. I have proven myself capable and professional when needs be and that has been accepted. I do not need to cut my hair and I will not if asked. I take just as much caution as anyone else when working.

As for the "you are not metal if you don't have long hair". FUCK THOSE PEOPLE! I bet they laugh at other subcultures of music for how they dress. It is not about what you look like but what you do that matters. If you want to cut it do, if not don't. The best thing I have ever done is stop listening to what other people think about how I look.

you just wish you were half as metal as that dude on the right

Fuck those people

we both know Fabio play 9 string guitar in a Melodic death metal‎ band called 'The Pu$$Y $layers'

i don't consider myself apart of the 'metal community', because it is basically douchebags like that. you have to look/act metal, or get the F out.

that isn't me lol. i am just a guy who listens to metal. it is music. often times these people/groups who 'look metal' listen to shit, and it is all about the image. and they don't even appreciate good music, let alone good metal.

i remember seeing an interview where it was said that Chuck Schuldiner would go up on stage wearing sandles lol. and if he isn't metal, no one is :P

From the man himself:

No no no no nooooo, you should man, you totally should!!! And do you wanna know why?

We are Metalheads, we are brothers (and sisters) and we look out for each other and don't hate on other metal bands, no matter how much of a douchebag the lead singer or screamer can be or how bad the guitarists play etc.

Then there are Elitists or Elitist Metalheads,

They are the other kind

We can't soil our holy kind and it's name because of them

We just have to kick them THE FUCK OUT!!!

you need to look like a greek god to be a pc gamer.

i read that as "geek" god... haha

i mean, i appriciate having friends who love metal, but the whole 'metal community' just leaves a bad taste in my mouth, as the people, that i have been exposed to, who see themselves as 'the metal community', have been the type of 'metal or die', and 'that aint even metal...gtfo' lol

so did i... we may be dyslexic.
