Onedrive Personal Vault

So there is this “Personal Vault” Feature in Onedrive. Basically a folder that needs a two-factor login every time you want to access it (or at least it does on my machine). I seem to have several problems with it. (or maybe I’m using it incorrectly).

  1. The vault is usually locked, that is probably by design. I’m wondering why Onedrive communicates this to me as a synchronisation problem in the notification area. Am I supposed to unlock my vault three times a day without wanting or having to update any files in it?

  2. Onedrive keeps adding shortcuts to my personal vault in the root of my Onedrive directory (i.e.: D:\Onedrive). There were like 17 at one point. I deleted all but the newest one and now it is already up to three again. I’m by no means a neat-freak but that can’t be how that is supposed to work, right?

My Windows installation is from July of last year so I’m not carrying around cruft from the Skydrive era or something. I’m just wondering how this is supposed to work. I’m probably not expected to have my Onedrive stuck with a synchronization issue, right?

It is locked by design. It is only meant for infrequently accessed data that is highly sensitive in nature: like tax documents for example. It is not recommended for “hot” data that is always moving in and out.

After a timeout of 15 minutes I believe it locks itself back again.

Seems there is a sync issue. If you edit the content from the web app that usually fixes stuff like this once it syncs back to the computer.

Yeah that’s what I thought too. It just shows me a Notification that there is a synchronisation issue due to a locked vault. I did not change anything locally or in the web app.
Yet I’m getting 2 notifications:

  • Vault: My vault is locked, can not synchronise
  • Documents: My vault is locked, can not synchronise

I mean what is this? I’ve never put a file in the vault. It just shows up and decides to annoy me. I already got a pet for that.

Addendum: I’ve unlocked my vault in the web app and locally. I’ll let you know what is up after i reboot tomorrow morning.

Check out this article I found. Useful links inside about how to configure it.

Ohhh you can deactivate it. Nice.

Well that solves all of my problems with it.

Glad I could help
