Office Chair Mentioned

What company does Wendell refer to where he gets his office chairs. I am finding that my days are mostly spent in a chair so I am looking into getting a chair that is more comfortable I have also heard of these gaming chairs as below. I am putting this into the development category because that is what I am getting the chair to do.

I think Wendell usually recommends Steelcase. They're a little more price-y, though...

yeh I see that after seeing a chair worth over a $1000 dollars.

Look for used office supply stores, you can find Steelcase chairs for a lot less.

You can get a steelcase leap for < $500 easy used and in like new condition. Sit in one, though, and confirm its good.

thanks maby I will check out my university's surplus store.

Definitely don't buy without sitting in one first. I bought a Steelcase Leap on MoveLoot for $120 bucks and was super excited until I sat in it. The construction and adjustability is very good, but I felt like I was being tortured while sitting in it. Not even kidding, I started getting feelings of distress while sitting in it. Ended up having to give it to someone else (no problems for them) and buying a chair from IKEA.

Herman Miller Embody is pretty good. Definitely sit in one before buying it. They're pretty pricey, but have a 12 year warranty.

haha I had that but it was because of my poor posture. After like two weeks I felt so much better and I was not sitting at my computer like quasimodo

After a lot of research, I actually bought a new steelcase leap chair based on @wendell's suggestion. I believe it was @imaximus who found a good sale on them and posted it here quite a while back. For whatever reason, I found it to not be that comfortable for me. Everything about the chair is GREAT, but I found the actual seat padding to be less than I hoped for. My ass started hurting pretty quickly into a short (1-2 hour) gaming session. I think this is why some folks go with the various "gaming" chairs since the seat material does look thicker and may possibly provide more padding than a more traditional "professional"/office chair. The LEAP chair does make an awesome office chair, but for some reason (perhaps the way I sit while gaming) it was not comfortable for me during medium-length gaming sessions. Just my 2 cents.

@imaximus how did you end up liking your LEAP chair?

This is where I got mine.

But you know what, I gotta say I don't think it's worth the price. It's a great chair, but I'm not 100% happy with it. My main complaint is the adjustable arm rests. They can be adjusted up and down which is great, but the top padded part your arms rest on also swivel back and forth and side to side. That sounds cool except you can't lock them in place and the slide around pretty easily. So sometimes when I sit down my ass lands on a corner of the arm rest and that can hurt if you hit it hard enough. Then the fact they swivel around while your just adjusting in your seat is annoying too.

Otherwise it's a great and highly adjustable chair. VERY well built but doesnt look it.

I feel like this sometimes, but there is something none of these chairs and a ton of desks do not accommodate. Skinny short men and women. Usually the seats are too large, and your lower back ends up at an odd angle, along with your arms being 4" inside the seat instead of using the arm rests. I also find myself often, having my right arm at an angle pointed left slightly while typing. Maybe a solution is a split ergonomic keyboard for me. Thoughts @wendell ?

There are 3 sizes of herman miller aeron chair for this reason. It can be hard finding a b or c size second hand tho. You might also try aeron. People that don't find leap comfy usually rave about Herman miller stuff

I also like leap v1 over leap v2 and iirc leap v1 had at least two size options

Thank you. I'll look into those other options. It is really hard to tell from an online perspective. Chairs are usually not available to test out in most areas. Office Max, and Staples, are quite limited. What store would be best in finding these chairs to just test out?

find a commercial office supply store. They don't really advertise much. These are the folks that you go to when you have a problem like "hey I just rented 3 floors in the world trade center, fix me up" and they charge you like 10 grand per employee to design and deck out the office space. It's always nice and classy but $10k a head is.. a challenge.. lol

These items are high end executive chairs, I guarantee they have them to try out.

I'll give those a look!
