Numbers make more sense in long form

Im younger than 40 so I didn’t know much about this difference, but it does make sense in long form. So why did short take over? Is this an americism?

How did I not know this…

Really. 1 Billion is either 1,000,000,000 OR 1,000,000,000,000

That’s infuriating.

Is there a standard word for SI 10^9 and 10^12?

(I just figured out what the answer is)

10^9 is giga and 10^12 is tera, the prefix is the only universally standard format it seems?

But that sounds weird on its own…

I dont have a giga dollars :frowning:

Dang, my whole life is a lie.

I must have read about it during all the (excessive) math studies I did in school. Yet I had forgot that Britain went with the short as well. I’d bet the reasons are more about geopolitics than science.

Too many, goyim.

Color, aluminum, gray. Silly Brits.

It really does make sense when you look at what other languages call their big numbers. Very interesting indeed…

I really don’t care for this millard term though.
