I've been using a BB Torch for the last while and my contract is up . I'm looking in to phones like the Nexus 4, One X+, Note 2, or even the upcoming DNA (or Deluxe). My main concern is battery life, and a fair amount of storage (though I think 16gb is good for me). I'm also wondering if the 1.7 GHz or 1.6 GHz processors will outperform the Nexus 4, or if the 2gb vs 1 gb of ram will be a big difference. Any suggestions? (and if there are other phones that are similar to compare)
Nexus 4. Cost, and the added support for google is great. I currently have a samsung nexus, and getting the newest OS without any effort (unless your willing to root the phone) is super great for the consumer. No effort, great phone.
You'll think that at first, and you'll be wrong. After you have the Note for a while it will become normal. Check out some youtube reviews of the Note after a extend uses review.
If you want a phone with a premium feel, don't bother with anything Samsung makes, you'll want to go HTC for that. If the display is your major concern, HTC (Droid DNA or One X+, doesn't matter, both have stunning displays) or the Nexus 4 is the way to go. If you want to go unlocked, Nexus 4 is the way to go, without a doubt.
Also, battery life on HTC phones is comparable with Samsung, no matter what people here say. I can get about 3 days out of my One X (intl version) with light use. When gaming though, I can suck it empty in about 3 hours. I have a One X and there is quite simply no comparison between the display on the Note 2 and the One X. the display of the One X is just so much better (I'm not really a fan of oversaturated AMOLED panels).
I love the One X's display, but the camera is nowhere near the S3's. The Note 2 is massive, but it has a replaceable battery and upgradeable memory like the S3. And even though I don't like Samsung's display calibration, those 2 features are enough to make me ignore the display.
It's all about preference and compromises I guess. And the DNA does look brilliant too.
actually, in well lit situations they perform roughly the same (I have a friend with an SGS3 so I took the liberty of comparing them) and in dark situations (both when filming and taking photos), the One X performs way better than the SGS3 thanks to that f/2.0 aperture (same applies to the droid DNA since it uses the same optics as the One X). Now, I know this is a personal preference, but I think HTC's camera UI is much more intuitive to use than Samsung's. It's simple, elegant and to the point compared to Samsung's UI which feels clunkier to me.
The pen is based on Wacom technology, it is accurate, pressure sensetive and generally awesome for drawing and handwriting. It's like having a tiny Cintiq with way better pixel density but worse pen input.
As far as the size, it really isn't a problem for me. It fits in my pocket, I don't have to strain to read websites, my iPhone seems tiny now...
If you're in Europe you can probably try it out for a week and then take it back according to consumer law. Check your local consumer law though... I did this and will not be sending it back.
I'm going to have to agree with Wifi. When i first got my note II it felt massive to me, a week later it is normal now. I had to help my dad yesterday put an app on his iphone 4, it felt like a phone designed for children becuase it feels so tiny now.
