New to gigabyte server

We got our first big boy server this week. R282-Z91

2 amd epyc 7452’s and 512gb ram.

I am used to dell servers (older like 720’s) and they are pretty quiet. (not that I really care about the noise) but this server is loud just idling. It seems to be the power supply fan. it ramps up and down a bit but normally it is running pretty fast and loud.

We have proxmox installed - but only a couple vm - but even with the vm’s not running it is jet like.

Also - the thing seems to boot twice. It goes though the bios check - asked where you can select del or such - (which you can’t at that point) goes though checking for drives and other hardware. then starts over. At this point you can go into setup or boot menu. Is this normal?

thanks.

ok - the supplier says the the boot cycle is normal. The fan noise has lowered since putting in more drives… (wondering if the bigger case fans are running more now causing the power supply fans to run less)

just a theory.

Our HP Proliant Dual Processors systems do the double boot cycle thing as well. You can hit a key at any time but you do not get to the option that you want until it does the startup sequence completely. Ours are Intel XEON systems though and our servers are quite old.
