New PC - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D

I’m considering building a new system with the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and would appreciate any suggestions for the best RAM and motherboard to pair with it.
I also already have the NH-U12A with dual fans, which should probably be good for the 9800X3D. Additionally, I have a 6900XT graphics card and a be quiet! Dark Power 13 1000W PSU.

How much ram do you want/need and are you wanting to tune/overclock it?

Which features are you looking for on the motherboard?

What is the budget?

64GB RAM, possibly slightly tuned or overclocked. The motherboard has more USB ports, BIOS option for flashing.

Gigabyte X870E AORUS MASTER

ASUS ROG STRIX X870E-E GAMING WIFI

G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB 64GB (2x32GB) DDR5-6000 CL30

That seems like a good pick for RAM. If you want a hands off experience a 6000MT expo kit is best. If you want to manually tune look for 6000+ CL 30-32 Kits because those have Hynix dies. Max performance is probably 8000 MT nowadays but it’s restricted to 32/48GB kits and requires more effort or luck to set up.

For the motherboards those are probably good, but you can probably save some money if you settle for WiFi 6E and USB 3.2 and get X670E. Or if you find an X870 board that offers the USB you need it would suffice too.

All AM5 boards have bios flashback, since AMD mandated it (at least B650 and X670/870)

There are not too many experiences out for X870 yet but both suggestions should be decent lower high end picks.

its 100€ difference between x670E and X870

I always went high end for motherboards. It’s the piece that stays the same over many many years but that’s just ne

Yes im tihking the same.

Having the central part that glues it all together be cheap does not make much sense to me either.

What monitor do you have or want to run with

Samsung Odyssey G5 1440p 144hz

Probably the 6900xt will be bottlenecked.

One of the nicest X870E boards in my opinion is the Asrock X870E Nova.
But of course it kinda depends on which kind of features that are important to you.
And what kind of features you need less.

Nice thing with Asrock boards is that you could check out the block diagram of each board.
And than you could actually see how the pci-e lanes are layed out.

For AM5, a 6000MT/s@CL30 is kind of the sweet spot. So, whatever is cheapest from a reputable brand like Corsair, G.Skill or Teamgroup. You can get away with ~$180 in the US market. Here is a link to the cheapest current 64 GB @ 6000MT/s@CL30:

For motherboard, if money is not really important, a solid choice is the Asus ProArt Creator. However, it is way overkill. Going mid range can save quite a bit of money. AMD also did a rebranding trick, so X870E are now what would previously be labeled X570 / X670(E), while X870 are now what would previous be labeled B550 / B650(E). Biggest “betrayal” is the shift from A520 / A620 to B840.

It is understandable that the A series has become B series - There is very little difference between A and B nowadays, for like $20 more you can get a solid B board over an A board - so the need for differentiation is understandable but, B840 boards are worse than B650 boards right now. This is a short term, single generation hickup though, hopefully.

Good mid-range boards, according to PCPP:

Type Part Price
Motherboard ASRock X670E Pro RS $219.99
Motherboard MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk WiFi $229.00
Motherboard Asus TUF Gaming X670E-PLUS WiFi $269.99
Motherboard Asus Prime X670E-Pro WiFi $269.99
Motherboard Gigabyte X870E AORUS ELITE WIFI7 $319.99

There are a few other models as well, but these I feel are the most promising at the requested price point ($200-$300 budget).
