New monitor on the way - what should I know?

I’m currently rocking two Asus VC239’s (23-inch 60Hz 1920x1080 IPS) displays, and have been for many years. I finally decided to upgrade and ended up ordering (After much deliberation, because information about monitors is surprisingly sparse) the KTC M27P6 (27-inch 160hz 4k Mini-led) through Taobao (So far I think it’s an unusual and somewhat confusing marketplace). My intention is to use one of my current screens and my new one in a similar dual-monitor setup when it arrives in the mail.

During my quest looking into monitors I learned that monitor drivers are something that I kind of didn’t know existed, and that given the option you should probably use DisplayPort over using HDMI.

I’m just wondering what other things that someone relatively ignorant of monitors like myself might benefit from knowing? In particular in regards to setting them up.

Edit: I’m on windows 11 primarily.

I also plan on trying to follow the calibration as outlined here KTC M27P6 Review 2025: Best Mini LED Monitor Under $500 , it seems rather comprehensive.

You don’t mention what OS you’re using. I’ve never had much of an issue with monitor drivers on Windows or installed any provided drivers or software from manufacturers in many years.

With a mixed multi-monitor setup like yours the things you’ll be messing around with are physical alignment and trying to get your image colour profile and brightness to match within acceptable bounds. How much of a pain that is will depend on how you use your dual monitors and what you use them for.

Thanks for letting me know I missed that. I’m on windows 11 and edited that into my post.

Based on just stuff I found whilst looking at various monitor models, it seems less like having the right drivers can potentially give you more functionality and very marginally increase stability if windows detects your monitor wrong. But this is all second-hand knowledge, so it’s quite likely not the whole story.

Updating your monitors firmware (another thing I learned recently) seems to be a far more impactful thing, especially in cases where there’s colouration problems or software bugs with the monitor itself.
