Apparently if it’s the same spot it’s pecking at then the wood could be infested with insects and it’s looking for food there.

At my outside storage a woodpecker liked pecking my aluminum ladder. This was springtime so I surmised it was a mating call.
Inspections only catch so much stuff.
I had my house inspected by a highly rated inspector just two weeks before I closed, they didn’t catch a lot of stuff.
