New gaming review website!

Hey guys, I started a gaming/tech/music/movies/tv review website yesterday... would appreciate if y'all went and checked it out and gave some constructive critisism or even just let me know what you think! There isn't a ton of content just yet, but I plan to keep with with gaming news, new releases, etc.

Looking for ways to improve the layout, how content is presented, what types of content you guys might like to see, etc. Any sort of feedback is extremely helpful!

I've been gaming since I was a little kiddo and have always wanted to start a game review website and finally got around to it after finishing school and getting my life together a bit, so I'm pretty excited about this and want as much feedback as I can get on the site and the content.

Thanks guys

Alslo, follow me on the following social media, if you feel so inclined.

Shameless self-advertisement is shameless.

Seriously though, if anything, it would be great if you could go into depth with reviews in an objective way. There are a lot of wishy washy review sites out there which are full of subjective stuff. It's impossible to be completely objective, but it's a good idea to aim in that general direction.

I'm not advertising for commercial purpose, I'm not asking anyone to buy anything or anything of the sort. I'd just like some criticism on the site since i'm still in the process of developing it.

If you feel so inclined, report me as spam, but I think that most of the community would agree that this is not spam.

My guess is you have done that, but check your links. Everywhere I click sends me back to the main page.
Otherwise it scales well on my phone.
Do you have a team, or are you doing this by yourself? It won't be a bad idea to find someone else to help you atleast in the beginning. Something like jump-start the website with some content.

I'm gonna take away that "like" now. You can't have it anymore.
The reviewing especially of a videogame is completely subjective process. I don't like driving games in general. Back in the day I adored NFS MW and Underground 1. Today - I hate driving games.
I hate FPS games, I love Serious Sam.
Everything in game reviews is subjective.

Yeah, I only have the main page and each page for the reviews so far, so all of the links just lead back to main page. I don't have the tech/music/movies/tv content created yet

glad to hear it's scaling well on mobile / etc!

Just me. I'm currently looking for a graphic designer to design a logo and a banner for the site and social media, but no luck so far on finding someone's work I like a lot.
Anyone know any good pixel artists?

I do plan to have a couple of other content creators writing reviews. Specifically for movies / tv.

I try to keep my reviews as objective as I can, but obviously some subjectivity will be involved, as a review with anything. However, I will always call-out when I am being subjective based on my own taste, since I know that everyone obviously doesn't like the same stuff.

Site looks clean, squarespace?

I would say a plug is ok, but I would also recommend you putting the link to your site on your profile here. That way people can find out about more naturally, and on their own.

Would be nice to have in the OP with maybe a break down of why you started this and how you are making the site, what your plans are etc. etc. Right now it seems more like you are trying to drive traffic to the site and not how you can make it better. Which I genuinely think you are trying to do, the "how can I make this better?" part that is.

Looks pretty simple right now, as you said you just started. I didn't see a way to get to you Facebook and twitter from the site, I would recommend you adding that.

Are you going to start a youtube? Is there a goal for how many reviews you are going to do, aka will there be a consistency to the reviews?

That's right, it's a bit challenging not being able to edit the HTML exactly the way I want it, but it's just far easier to integrate everything on squarespace.

I'll definitely edit the OP to reflect this a bit better.

Adding that is definitely in the plans very soon

Considering it, but I need to purchase some equipment yet. (cap cards, etc.) before I begin that. I'd appreciate some insight if there are some people experience in this.

Yes, I plan to do 2 reviews (of games) per week, or more depending on new-releases, etc.
There will likely be less consistency with tv/movies. I might even consider just simply removing those from the site entirely if I can't find someone to create content for that section.

Wrong.
I am doing my YouTube channel on 3 years old cpu and something I think even older as a GPU.
You need software.
Mirillis Action. It's a recording software. It's really light weight. And I mean when I check my stats while recording, I have the same cpu, gpu and ram usage, as if I'm not recording. If you have powerful enough computer to run any game, you can record it.
OBS is a free option, but it's more taxing. Not too much, but more than Action.
I am using Sony Vegas for editing. Easy-to-use, one time pay and you own it, exactly as I like it.
Adobe's stuff are more complex, but they give a lot of extra functionality, that Vegas don't have.

You need a good mic.an, some people are really picky about that. The main complaint about my channel is my shitty equipment, and I don't use face cam, so it's just the mic. So find a decent microphone...

PS:

I don't know about movies and TV, but you might want to reconsider the music section. Music industry is said to be the worst industry to deal with in regards to content creation...

Yeah, I realize that, but I have a passion for music and write reviews for albums I enjoy anyway, so it wouldn't be much extra work to stick it on there.

hmm, yeah I was mostly thinking for console games, I would need additional hardware... (exclusives, etc.) but maybe I'll just stick to PC games for the time being.

Here's the thing: PS4, XB1, WiiU, NX, 3DS, PS Vita, or PC...
Next year there will be Scorpio Xbox and Neo PS4. Are you going to cover them as well? On top of that you are doing that alone. Don't go too deep. If it grows you can easily add to it. You want to do 2 game reviews a week on top of music, movies, etc etc. You can get overwhelmed pretty fast. Especially at this time, when many games for all platforms start to show up.
Anyway, that's just me.

I can definitely see your point. Probably going to stick with PC for quite a while, to be honest.
But I do like some console exclusives - and will likely be reviewing a few of those as well.
