I’ve sourced all my parts to my new build (below). Considering the evolution of Ryzen over time I am not sure if I should be updating Bios before or after installing the OS. I also plan on using Raid 0 for storage (non-essential) so a bit unsure when I should be doing that. Its been years since I’ve put an office build together
Please let me know if the below steps are correct.
Update Bios
Install OS and updates
Set RAID 0 in Bios
Set Ram freq to advertised if not set by default
Parts:
Ryzen 9 3900x
AsRock X570 Phantom Gaming-ITXTB3
Kraken X63
h210i
Gskill Trident Royal 3600Mhz
Adata SX8200 PRO 1TB
3x Samsung 680 Evo
2 in RAID 0
1 for OS file backup
This board should be compatible with Ryzen 3000 out of the box.
Update BIOS only if you have stability or performance issues. This also shouldn’t affect your OS install at all.
Same goes with changing the RAM speed profile - can be in whatever order.
If I am not mistaken, you should setup hardware RAID before installing an OS on those drives. Somebody please correct me if I am wrong
EDIT:
So OS goes on ADATA? Then the RAID setup can be done whenever, and even in software
Yea OS goes to ADATA not the RAID, my bad if I didn’t preface that. Without opening a can of worms is there a general pref to RAID from bios vs in the OS?
