We were wondering why an appliance was suffering poor performance after a drive replacement. Was a full stack of intel ssds. Replacements were from Micron.
Trouble shooting hdparm to controller caches showed full performance ~ 330MBs accross the board. Did a nwipe and discovered one of the replacements was taking 3 times longer to wipe. Swapped to a different bay and wiped again. Problem followed drive. Picture is the result. Not one fault mentioned by smart and disk life is less than 100 hours. Firmware is updated.
Just a friendly PSA that even though your manufacturer swears compatibility on thier mother’s unmentionables. Performance parity matters. Replacement drives need to be the same vendor and model. Just like a bad apple ruins the barrel. One derpy ssd spoils the pool. Now imagine trying to explain this to enterprise tech support workers who are neither technical nor supportive.
