Hello!
I saw in this thread (https / forum. level1techs.c o m/t/new-ds4243-truenas-core-checksum-errors-across-every-disk-solved/167952) that it is possible to run NetApps with an extra server with TrueNAS.
Thereby the NetApps are connected as simple storage.
That looks really cool.
I may soon have access to old machines that are no longer needed.
My advantage is that I could get the NetApps with hard disks.
There are only a few open questions, which I can’t solve by googling.
Maybe someone can answer them here.
- Do the adapter cards work without problems with TrueNAS Scale? I found the following cards for little money: NetApp 111-00341+B1 Quad Port SAS Controller HSC-1041.
- How do I have to configure the NetApps to make them available as simple storage?
- Do I have to pay attention to anything special?
- Can i mix some NetApp-Devices? I may also get different models
Unfortunately, I myself have no idea how to configure NetApps.
The machines are a bit older (~2014 or so) and have been out of support for a long time.
I can’t tell you the type, unfortunately, as I only have the serial numbers.
Based on the serial number, it’s hard to guess what kind of machine it is.
Possibly it is a NetApp FAS2750 or similar, as based on the controller SN that comes out as a possible solution.
Why am I asking this question?
I figured it’s a fun tinkering project and I can get to the devices pretty easily.
I want to use TrueNAS because I have no idea about NetApp configuration but I know how to use TrueNAS.
