Hello everyone. I have two Netapp disk enclosures, either DS4243 or DS4246. Both say DS4246 on the rack ear covers, one came with IOM3 controllers and one has IOM6.
I bought and installed some of the Dell HB-SBB2-E601 controllers that can be swapped into these shelves, but they do not behave properly. For both units, if I install two Dell controllers or one Dell controller and leave one space empty, the fans run at 100% and never ramp down. If I install one Dell controller and one Netapp controller the fans behave like they should.
I can’t remember anymore, but a while back I checked the manufacture dates on the backplanes and they were newer than the cutoff date where the Dell controllers should work. So far all of my testing has been with no server connected to the controllers. I’m trying to figure out which controllers I’m going to end up using before I buy cables.
Anybody have any ideas how to / if I can get my Netapp shelves to work with the Dell controllers? I’m using SATA drives and no interposers so worst case if using one Dell and one Netapp controller will allow me to access the drives and also keep the fans quiet then I could do that.
