Been using Koss Porta Pro for all my headpone needs for the best part of a decade now, but am just about to send my pair back for repair, and thought it my be worth asking for recomendations on another set of headpones to try out in the interim.
So, looking for a sub $120 (£80) set, and really the only stipluation is no earbuds!
i have some skullcandy hesh headphones ($75ish i think) that i have been using for a while pretty good for the price. however i hear sennheisers make good headphones and im gonna be trying some of them out sometime soon
If you're actually buying from UK sites the ATH-M50's are probably out of budget (133£). I haven't heard the K242's but from what I've read it's a good neutral headphone.
If you want a more fun sound with punching mid bass and emphazied treble there's a b-stock offer on the Ultrasone HFI 580 on thomann. A few more options to check out are the Shure SRH-440 (neutral with bright treble), Grado SR60i (overall solid sound, bright, leak alot, slightly out of budget), Creative Aurvana Live (warm bassy sound, rebranded Denon headphones).
i got AKG K240s for like 70 on amazon for christmas and I love them also really comfortable doesn't even feel like you are wearing them. Its good to try out a bunch if you can go to best buy or somewhere.
Unfortunetly Im stuck in quite remote spot, so testing out a bunch is not really a option....but good to hear another good review for the AKG range (but think the 240s may be a little chunky for what im after).
The portapros are awesome, Amazing price to performance ratio.
Now, to your question, have any plans to use them for gaming? If not, the MDR-V6 doesn't have a great soundstage but the frequency response is very good, very flat. If you install some DT250 cushions they will be pretty darn comfy.
You could also look into the Fostex t50rp or the Shure SRH440
