Need some monitor suggestions

So I'm building a new PC and I need some monitor ideas that can range up to $300. What's some suggestions that will give me the most for my money?

You can either buy a 1440p IPS display, or go up to around $550 and get a 4k IPS free-sync display

Otherwise you could get multiple 1080p IPS display

Also, like ya what's your total budget for the PC+Monitor? And what's the PC if you haven't ordered it already.

what for? gaming?

Yeah guys I believe you helped me earlier Streetguru, I'll post the items I bought for my build here in a minute. The monitor will be for general use..mostly just gaming and streaming movies/tv shows.

I am currently on my first build and I know a decent amount about computers and their components. My question is about two separate things. First here is the current gear I'm looking into: Case: Thermaltake Versa N21, MB: MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard, Processor: AMD FX-8350 8 core, SDD: Kingston Digital 240gb, Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4gb, Power: Corsair CX 600W, RAM: Kingston HyperX Fury 16gb 1866MHz, Cooling: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO,
OS: Windows 8.1.
First Question is: Is this a good start for a first time build?
Second Question is: Am I missing anything or is there anything that I can change/improve?
Any suggestions will be gladly taken! A big shoutout to the Tek Syndicate team for supplying most of my information!

Sorry I just reposted that old comment. I actually thought about switching to the 480gb SSD by kingston

1440p might be a but much for one 970 depending on the games you like to play. Maybe a 1080p ultra wide would be a good compromise.

I recommend the Philco predicta. Best monitor out there right now.

I also switched the graphics card to a MSI R9 390 because I heard they out-performed the 970 by a smidge, Would that be able to do 1440p? Or should I stick to 1080p?
