Need help, What would be my next upgrade step?

Hi Tek Community,

I need help on how I should upgrade my current gaming rig. I currently have this build:

https://teksyndicate.com/videos/build-best-350-gaming-pc-nov-dec-2012

Here are the specs:

  • CPU: AMD A10-5800K 3.8GHz Quad-Core Processor
  • Motherboard: ASRock FM2A75M-DGS Micro ATX  FM2 Motherboard
  • Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
  • Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
  • Case: MSI TC- (Black) ATX Mid Tower Case
  • Power Supply: Corsair Builder 500W 80 PLUS Certified ATX12V Power Supply

What can I do? Can I add a graphics card? Any direction would be very helpful.

I suppose you could throw this in there http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?gclid=CjkKEQjwzv-cBRD_oY2PouKVvMIBEiQAKuGNCw-OYwA_GzUlt8gILlty7TwRZXSrHBFeK6g-vBr9xenw_wcB&Item=N82E16814202052&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwords&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwords-_-pla-_-Desktop+Graphics+Cards-_-N82E16814202052&ef_id=U2PRNAAAAb-c17Pa:20140618004245:s

and run a crossfire with your APU. Or buy spend a bit of money and pick up, say a 260x or 270 and use that as a dedicated card. What kind of budget are you on?

How money do you have to upgrade with, and I'm just assuming this is a gaming rig?

Up to $200 to upgrade.

I would just put in an r9 270.  Not the X version.  It should cost about $170 or $180 and it will give you great gaming performance.

+1 to this

+1 to R9 270

+1... but the x version is worth it if its on sale.. I wouldn't spend like an extra $30 for it though... maybe like an extra $15

I wouldn't buy the X version unless it's cheaper.  Just my opinion though, as I don't want to pay for the same card with only a higher clock speed.

200 would snag you a 2nd hand 7970, 280x, 7950 etc. Dont know what the situation is like there in the US, but there is so much dirt cheap mining gear going cheap here in oz (still under warranty as well). Something to consider anyways otherwise yeah r270 is good.

Thanks, Looks like I am going with the R9 270!
