Does anyone know how to boot up this old Dell motherboard? I hooked up power to it and tried to short some of the “front panel” pins but no luck so far. I don’t have an old Dell case unfortunately but I would atleast want to try powering up to see if this board works.
ATX was fairly new back then. Maybe non-ATX board? proprietary power on the board? Dell is full of surprises.
Perhaps. I did look up some info on some later Dell motherboards having propietary power switch connectors. Too bad there’s a big lack of info on this motherboard online.
Progress. Managed to find the exact model of Dell PC this motherboard is from. A Dell Dimension 4100. Luckily Dell still has the manual for this ancient PC.
I noticed that there is an “auxillary power” connector. I’m assuming I have to plug this one in too in addition to the main power connector.
Yeah, seems like proper labeling wasn’t invented back then. Today you get pin counts and stuff for each item. AGP (nice try Intel) and IDE are the only names that actually describe technical specs.
Can’t help you and further I’m afraid, but getting (proprietary) 30 year old gear to work is quite a feat without having any good documentation (although being x86).
My guess is AT-Standard on board and power connections. But I might be wrong about ATX introduction year.
