My new gaming build! $1800 - Need advice

So right now i'm conflicted...

The Xeon 1230 V3 is basically an i7?

I plan on eventually overclocking my cpu, which I believe is not possible with the xeon series. So which one is better the i5 or the xeon?

Also is 16gb of ram too much?

The xeon is an i7 with no iGPU... it isnt unlocked however... same architechture same cores same available thread count... you can't overclock them but you'll save a lot of money buying an h97 mobo instead of z97... there's some small differences in instructions and cache but they're fantastic for video editing, virtualization, encoding, and rendering... perfectly suitable for gaming... would be much faster in cpu intensive tasks than an overclocked 4590k and actually a bit cheaper if you were going for a nice z97 to overclock on... basically turns ur gaming pc into an all around powerhouse... for a few bucks more you could raise 100 mhz with the E3 1240 v3 or 1245 v3 but the 1230 is the lowest with SMT

As for ram... 8gb is fine for gaming... 16gb is recommended for video editing...

I think I will stick with the i5 but is there anyway that I can save a couple extra bucks on my build? Like getting a different mobo?

Get an 850w power supply if you plan to get another R9 290 in the future.

Thanks! Should I get a liquid cpu cooler for overclocking, or is the one I have now fine?

The one i'm looking at: http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/corsair-cpu-cooler-cw9060015ww

The air cooler you have now will be fine.  In fact, it should often outperform the H75, and be a lot quieter doing so.

From the edited build that you sent me above, will the 100 watt difference from the EVGA 750 Watt to the Seasonic 650 Watt psu effect anything?

Not really.  Seasonic makes some really good stuff, and I prefer them over EVGA.  Since you're quite unlikely to go crossfire R9 290s with 750w, 650w is perfectly fine.

I just did some research on Seasonic, and they do make good products, they actually manufacture the product, sell the product, and provide support for it themselves, where some other companies do not.

Ok thank you guys so much for the help!

Here is the final build! If you have any final suggestions please let me know!

* Also does anyone know where i can get a cheap version of windows 7?

honestly havent seen the best reviews on that card ive done alot of research on the 290's and this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202103&cm_re=r9_290_vapor_x-_-14-202-103-_-Product has blown them all out of the water cooling wise and performance it 40 more than the one you got picked tho heres a video of one another as well

I believe that's the TRI-X, not Vapor-X.  Vapor-X is still pretty good, though.

The cooling looks great on that one, but $534 (Vapor-X) is way out of my price range. Do you think the Tr-X is good enough? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202080&AID=10657534&PID=3938566&SID=&nm_mc=AFC-C8JunctionCA&cm_mmc=AFC-C8JunctionCA-_-na-_-na-_-na

Also what brand of fans do you all recommend?

yea its pretty much the same the heatsink is just different  the vapor x i posted is 439 in the u.s guessing your somewhere else edit: dang your cards up there in canada are almost $ 100 more

That one should be plenty fine.

Case fans?  Noctua, Corsair, Bitfenix, and Fractal Design are all good.
