cool old unit I am a heavy truck mechanic and we service the local halls apparatuses (E one / Fort Garry fire)
those 2 stroke “jokes” / green monsters are famous for NO throttle OR FULL throttle NO in-between
used to joke "slam your hand in the door and take the PAIN out on the engine and she will be happy
more serious I would recommend finding an OLD mechanic that worked on them and have him show youi HOW to set up the racks on those engines IT IS AN ART FORM and if not done right can end up BADLY or with a VERY SLOW truck
i haven’t been messing with tuning. i found a coolant leak in the intercooler (uses tank water to cool the engine), so i gotta try and isolate that first. and then fill the coolant again.
This is awesome Commissar!
What are your plans with it?
Valve rebuilt.
There was a stuck check valve that was likely causing the issues. Broke it free with a screwdriver. Cleaned up corrosion and scale.
Finished the valve, got water flowing!
but sprung a coolant leak at the fire muster, had to take it home early
main lower coolant hose needs replacing. recovered 9 or 10 gallons of coolant.
Ok real question, my local station needs chains for their engine where should we be looking to price out what we need to raise our but for them?
tire chains? you can get them at any heavy truck shop. they’re not fire truck specific unless you have maybe automatic chains.
the '70s pirsch engines our club has actually have auto sanders
what would be the recommendation for a southern state that sees “snow” 3-5 times a year but we still want our fire trucks to be able to drive around
Chains seem like the best option to me since we dont have plows and its infrequent.
i mean, regular tire chains should work. idk, im just a collector lol
Awesome! You a retired FF? They seemed to be i to old rig restos.
A buddy of mine is an LA city heavy duty diesel mech and gave me an American LaFrance shirt. Thing has lasted not one but two life times. Super sturdy shirt but now on its last legs.
Stupid phone cam got all that orientation wrong but im too lazy to edit the pics
just like the trucks lol
so, i totally forgot about this. i got the truck in full operation today! my club had pump training.
How’s the truck doing now?
