My new custom WASD V2 (with a surprise!)

I've been in the market for a replacement for my Deck 82 which I've been using on my sub PC that I typically use for Twitch and other browser-based activities while gaming on my main rig.

Now, the Deck 82 is a fucking sweet piece of hardware but here are my issues with it:

  • I really HATE typing on it, they tried to cram as much functionality as they could in such a small rugged package and it ended up just being very awkward and unintuitive, and the keys are annoyingly small
  • It's exuberantly expensive for what it is (I think I paid ~$200 for it like 4-5 years ago)
  • The USB plug (mine at least) is clear with the brightest fucking blue LED I've ever seen in my life, which is annoying because it will literally light up a dark room if you leave it plugged in

Otherwise, it's a pretty stout little piece of gimmick PC hardware with extremely high quality keycaps and lighting, and that diamond plate on the bottom is just too fucking cool.  I don't want to hate on Deck, they make quality shit and that thing has seen its fair share of time and tide and still works like a champ.

Then Logan goes and shows off that WASD V2 and the custom-printed keycaps and I knew I had to get one.  It has arrived, and it is magnificent (I apologize for the picture quality, poor lighting in my room along with a crappy camera on my Droid):

87-key custom layout with MX Green's because, as I'm sure you've already noticed, I have this keyboard up on the main clutter area of my desk and because I'm a filthy pig the clutter can sometimes fall over onto the keyboard.  The heavier stroke of the key prevents a lot of that despicable filth from facerolling out something incredibly sexist or racist on Twitch chat.  It's the bag of chips, I swear.

But you're also asking yourself "What's under that dinner napkin?  Whatcha got there?"...well:

I felt our Lord and Savior deserved his own place somewhere at my command center.  Still while typing out this post I'm astonished at the print quality on that custom key.  Twelve dollars is absolutely nothing compared to the moment of unwrapping that, or if you're lucky enough (like me) to get a hand-written acknowledgment of awesomeness by someone at the manufacturer:

So yeah, so far I'm pretty enamored with it.  Comparison with my Deck 82:

Wow, that's nice. Where do you live man? It is very rare to see people owning a Deck keyboard. I was considering getting a Deck Francium before.

Norcal, Sac area

like i said, Deck's are nice but the layout is just too frustrating for what you pay...for me at least...i have actually seen Deck 82's inside some cruisers on COPS, i think that's about the only good application for that keyboard

That's glorious.  Personally I think having colored keycaps on a black keyboard is ugly as hell, but the spacebar more than makes up for it.

Do they use Double Shot PBT as well?

I had the same thought minus the creepy gaben...

The art is Samus

Nice bottle of makers btw.
