My grandpa needs a windows tablet

Hi,
My grandpa asked me to recommend a windows tablet. This was when I realised I have been a bit out of the loop on mobile hardware. He wants something that he can Google stuff on, read the newspaper and answer mails. Of course an android tablet/iPad can do all of that, but he’s scared of learning a new OS. It’s important for him that he can attach a keyboard and use it on his lap(he’s not super mobile) which has me more towards a 2 in 1 but it also has to be light and small enough for it not to feel cumbersome. It should mainly function as a tablet.

The surface lineup looks decent but seems overkill and I was hoping to find something under 1000$. Are old surfaces decent? Is anyone up to date on what’s out there?

Thanks in advance!

The Surface Pro 3, 6, 7, and 8 are all well-built devices that I’ve had experience with.

The main issues tend to be the battery or the touchscreen failing. Both are pretty detremental, since repairing one of these units is nearly impossible.

However, the Intel i3 and i5 models tend to hold up quite a bit longer due to the reduced heat.

I believe the Pro 6 onward are compatible with Windows 11, but I’m unsure how well an i3 model would perform running it.

Other than that, I don’t know of any other inexpensive Windows 2-in-1 devices that are worth buying. Maybe an old XPS 2-in-1 (or the business equivalent)?
