My first computer

so ive come accross the youtube channel lately and i really like the budget builds. i was just curious if theres anything you guys would say or advise about this rig im wanting to build. so far its a rough draft and im wanting to keep it under $500 i call it "Pinkie Pie's Party Box" http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rBZA

any help or advise i could get would be much appreciated

the hard drive... samsung is not really know for their hard drives. i'd get a seagate or a western digital. a 1tb western digital caviar blue is about $65-70. over twice the capacity for $20 more.

also, get this discrete gpu instead: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-hd66702gd3

Are you sure you don't want to add a little more? This would blow away your suggested rig. This one will be as powerfull, but won't leave you much of an option tio upgrade to future AMD CPUs

I was thinking the exact same thing.

i think eventually id like to upgrade but i noticed it didnt have a cooling system would it be ok? but it does go a little over my price range

also heres the edited build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/rCeG

also, you want 8g of ram. 4g is bare minimum for computer these days..... you still want it to be 1866 speed tho

Goes a little over budget, but offers way more performance.

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gskill-memory-f314900cl10s8gbxl ok?

how much more. and what about a fan?

The fan that comes with the 965 will do the job, even with a small OC. People will be outraged if AMD or Intel sold crappy fans with their CPUs

Theres nothing inherently wrong with Samsung drives.  Samsung were the best for quiet operation back in the day but now mechanical hdds are basically a dead technology.  New Seagate and Western Digital (1TB/platter) drives are the only things worth buying right now.  WD offers drives with 3 and 5 year warranties but you definitely pay for it.

i do kinda have a question thats related but not. when i order parts do i need to order cables aswell or do the parts come with all i need to connect them to the motherboard?

Everything you need almost always comes with the parts. There is, however, the occassional error on the shipper's( Newegg, Amazon and so on) or shipping company's( FedEx, UPS) part, in which a few things may be missing. I believe, in that case, that you could ship back the part to be replaced or something with the missing thing. Hope that was clear.

I agree on the HDD part, 320GB is way too small, i'd go with a Western Digital Caviar Blue or Green 1TB. The APU doesnt make a whole lot of sense if you got a gpu in there, so i'd say you put in a CPU instead, i always like to use the AMD CPUs for buget builds. also the case is fucking disgusting. maybe you should check this link http://www.kbmod.com/2012/12/03/pc-build-guide-december-2012/

Dude( or dudette), some people may find it disgusting, but as always, it's a matter of preference

We never said Samsung wass bad, we just thought that the OP could get something better. As Commissar said, Samsung isn't really the best option when it comes to drives, but they're definitely not the worst. Heck, I love the SpinPoint I currently have on my laptop. It's so friggin' quiet, the only thing I can hear is the CPU fan
