Msata ssd vs sata ssd

Looking to invest in some new drives in the next two months. I run a 4770k mild OC at 4200 GHZ on a MSI GD65 MB, 2133 kingston pred ram. I know my board has an msata onboard. Should I use this for my OS? Should I delegate this to be some kind of cache drive? I'm not super knowledgeable on drives so if someone could lend some insight that would be awesome.

Nada. mSATA is the equivalent of micro usb. It's intended for smaller devices that can't offer a full port size. The fastest mSATA is the same as SATA II. For an SSD go for SATA III (which should 95% of them), a read / write speed of 500+ mb/s on both, and 64 or more GBs but i'd say at least 128 from experience.

msata does support sata 3, and what in the world do you mean by "equivalent of micro usb"

I stand corrected on msata's max speed. It's the micro usb equivalent because it's the same standard (SATA) made smaller (mSATA).

mSata is the exact same as Sata, just smaller.

If you want a discreet drive, or an extra open 5 1/4in bay, then go with msata, if not, go with sata.

Make sure your slot in mSATA, though, if it's mPCI-e, it wont work. (Both are the SAME physically, but are NOT compatible with each-other)
