MS Surface Pro 5 - Is the battery dead or can I do something about it?

I have just received this MS Surface Pro 5 to do some support - essentially, the laptop does not know what’s going on with the battery (i.e. it doesn’t show up on device manager at all) under Windows 10. I did a fresh install of W11 (because why not) and after installing all the drivers (even though it’s unsupported… Microsoft has drivers available! who knew!). However, the battery still doesn’t show up. I am concerned that there’s something going on with the BMS and that the whole battery needs to be replaced, which is a pain to do on these generation of Surface laptops.

My question is: Is there anything I would have to do to diagnose this further? or am I safe to assume that the battery is a fire hazard and that I need to change it straight away?

That Surface Pro likely has a failed battery on the safety chip. Replace the battery ASAP. Keep that unit in a bucket of sand as the battery may of pillowed.

Spicy pillow? Don’t see any bulging on the device itself, but yeah I’ll err on the side of caution - and boy replacing that battery is INSANE!

I once didn’t see a bubble/flex in a device until checking. Once a device can’t see the battery, the safety fuse kicked in. There are shops that do battery changes for under $100, there are tons of tape that needs to be replaced after so a DIY is yikes.
