A neat article from a while back.
So they say 40% better IPC over excavator?
Lets do some quick math "AMD Athlon X4 860K" gets 5615 cpu mark points in passmark whilst clocked at 3.7ghz.
5615/3.7=1517, okay now lets divide by the number of cores.
1517/4=379
We can say that excavator has a ipc value of 379.
379+40%=530
8 cores worth of zen is about 4240 (530*8)
And the likely frequency the 8 core parts are going to operate at is around the 4ghz ballpark, which should give it a passmark score of about 16960.
A very rough number, but still not unrealistic if what they say is true.
And it beats the 5960X by a small margine as well, if running stock.
And I don't think a 90-100 watt TDP would be unexpected from such a chip.
40% faster and 8 core definitely makes me consider upgrading to a zen chip from sandy bridge i7, if the cpu prices aren't comparable to intels rip off.
Better performance than a 4790k without abusing my wallet makes me want to upgrade.
I'm still on socket 775 :v
it has smt too. So you get 16 threads like the 5960x. If this thing is priced similarly to the normal i7 I will be buying one day one or two
