Here is my monitor:

if i were to replace the board, which one would it be

The main board on the right or the T-con board below the black tape cross?

The t-con board controls the back light circuitry

That is usually the first board to fail.
And it can fail suddenly.

Usually the when the mainboard is failing it will lose connections of the hdmi ports first and audio if the monitor supports it.
one way to tell if the backlight failed is to shine a flashlight onto the screen at a steep angle.
If you see graphics in the lighted zone, thats a sure sign.

From the looks of it, I’m quite sure that the T-con board interfaces with the display panel, not the backlight. If the backlight driver is the component at fault here, it would be the board in the upper left above the mains input.

I remember a while back that some of the dell 15" monitors started dying at the place I was employed at and someone did a deeper dive into it and turned out to be faulty capacitors in the power supply. It usually happened after a few years of use and there was a distinct electrical tic and random shutdowns before it finally just stopped working.

@Gnuuser super frustrating - I plugged the hdmi in and the display turns on for a second then turns off. The monitor, as a whole, is still functioning.

Can you mark-up the pic and post? the inputs are on the right.

Hello, here is a marked image showing where the backlight driver would be:

monitor

The arrows indicate what I assume to be the backlight cable feeding through the hole in the smaller circle

To be certain I looked up an image of the power supply for this monitor and it shows the backlight driver is integrated into it as one board, so everything behind that metal shield is a single unit.

The connector for the backlight is circled.

A word of caution if you do remove the power supply board; those bulk capacitors circled in yellow can hold a charge in excess of 200v for some time after the monitor has been unplugged, so be sure to avoid touching the lower half of the board or better yet short their leads using a tool with an insulated handle.

Hope this helps you.
