Monitor, mouse and keyboard don't respond

Hey,

I've just upgraded my PC with a new CPU and I've ran into a problem. When I turn on the PC, the mouse and keyboard don't respond and the monitor remains black. After a few minutes the PC goes into the sleep mode (I assume since all ventilators stop).

My system:

Old CPU: Intel core i3 3220 3.3Ghz

New CPU: Intel core i5 4690 3.5Ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte H61

GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX650 Ti

PSU: ATX 550W HEDY

What is the issue here? I'd like to fix it ASAP. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried using the USB 2.0 ports instead of the 3.0? Sometimes motherboards won't recognise them until the drivers are installed.

Ehm, the H61 is a Socket 1155 chipset, thei3 3220 is a socket 1155 CPU, so please don't tell me you tried to put a socket 1150  Core i5 4690 in there!!!!

If so, get it out quick and hope that you did not fry anything.

Without getting actual hands on with the hardware, it is hard to tell, but it sounds like something is messed up. I am guessing that the cpu is the problem. Try swapping the old one back in and see if it boots. It is possible that the new cpu isn't seated well, there are bent pins in the mobo (Intel has pins on the mobo, whereas AMD has pins on the cpu itself, so look on the mobo for a bent pin), maybe something else, but since it started with a cpu change, it is likely that that is the cause. Test the obvious first.

Let us know if 1) there are any bent pins or if 2) it boots with the old cpu installed. We can go from there.

Look at the OP. If what he wrote is right, where is the compatibility issue? ;-)

That is exactly what I did. Guess I should not trust the friend who said that it's compatible.

Same thing happens with my old CPU now.

Can you tell me what broke so that I replace it? Or would it be better to save up the money to buy a new PC?

My guess would be you fried the Motherboard, sorry to say that. Maybe the CPU as well. Hard to tell.

Try to send in the CPU for repair. I that works out, get a Z97 or H97 motherboard. I'm pretty sure your other components are still ok.

Just ask here in the forum. And say hi to your friend who gave you that precious advice. Tell him he might want to consider keeping his two cents to himself from now on.

That friend is right here. I made a mistake, what can I say. People make mistakes and I'm not flawless. I understand I fucked up the mans computer on accident, and that's why I'm sending him cash to replace stuff.

Lots of points for admitting it :)

+1

So you guys will stay friends, which matters most.

Look at my comment. If what I wrote was in English, I never said it was a compatibility issue. ;-)

What I was saying was that he might have gotten a DOA. I mentioned the difference between Intel and AMD as a way of letting him know where to look for bent pins. Won't do him a lot of good if he is looking in the wrong place for bent cpu pins now will it?

I think you are malRAMished. You need some more memory if you want those things to be able to work.
