? mobo & gpu swap advice needed

iv been thinking about swapping out my current b450 m for the

B450 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.x)

an swapping out my 1660 super oc for

a powercolor-fighter-radeon-rx-6500-xt-oc

the performence compare looks good

radeon-rx-6500-xt-oc

an might be worth the buy to gain a perform boost

an better compatibility with

krita an other apps on linux

unless the bandwidth chop from pci 4 to 3 makes them even will it be less then
the 1660 , if the were the same while running at pci 3 id still go for it

what do ya’ll think ?

id hand down the current b450m an gpu to my sis as she got just a 2700x , ram

case , psu fans an etc but no mobo an no gpu well not a new she got a

very old 1gb 460 evga from her first pc that was also 12years old

You’re doing a downgrade just so you know

Honestly I would keep your B450 board and just roll up to a 5800 X3D or 5600X, it should just be a BIOS update and drop in for massive performance improvements.

As for GPU the 6500 is really a lateral transition from a 1660. The 6600 is about the best value in GPU out there and can now be had at under $300 USD.

Mobo swap is pointless unless you also add a CPU, upgrade bios and CPU instead, and buy your sis a nice B450 directly.

6500 XT could have been good if it added a 3.0x8 → 4.0x4 MUX and had HW encoding/decoding capabilities. Now it just is not worth it. Which is a shame because it could’ve been so much better.

Then there is the RTX 3050, which is a nice card that costs at least as much as the 15-20% stronger 6600.

So yeah. Upgrade to a 6600 and then start saving for an AM5 system. After the initial costs, you will probably have a platform that lasts until 2030.
