There are two main workarounds for the 9070/XT troubles:
- Attach the GPU to the host’s amdgpu driver, detach prior to launching the VM. I haven’t tried this approach, but others have had success (see VFIO Pass through working on 9070XT ).
- Alternatively, live-attach the GPU to the VM only once the guest OS is loaded (see VFIO Pass through working on 9070XT - #37 by Precific ) - this way, the guest UEFI does not see the GPU. This approach also avoids any trouble where the desktop environment (e.g., Gnome Wayland) grabs the GPU and refuses to release it.
