Minisforum BD790i SE

Seems that there is a lot of coverage on the internet for this board. Does anyone have experience with Minisforum? Are they a reputable company and do they stand behind their products? Since this product is so new, I suppose that there is very little history on reliability. Thanks.

I had stability issues with mine and only yesterday found a “for sure” solution. My RX 9070 XT was defective so I’ve been relyng on the Ryzen iGPU for a week. I had random freezes that would require a reboot to fix, and the only solution was to disable “Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling”. After disabling it and rebooting, no more issues.

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers" -Name "HwSchMode" -Value 2 -Type DWord

The motherboard/processor combo itself is great, especially for the low price for a 16c/32t 100W CPU… Outside of AMD driver issues, there’s no problems so far in my experience on Windows at least. MinisForum support, however, is not the best. But realistically are any good? ASUS is worse at least.

Thanks for the reply. How long have you had this board? So it’s the Ryzen iGPU that caused your instability issue. Do you know if this is common or you just got unlucky with the chip? The reason that I am asking is that I am seriously considering this product and I don’t game. My current system is a 13 year old Asus P8Z77 / Linux OS and I am finally experiencing stability issues.

I have 4 of these boards. 2 will be a year old in about a week (non SE), the other 2 are from October 2024 (SE). They’ve all been fine. I did repaste them, but that’s more habit than necessity.

As far as reliability, if you are doing normal things, it’s fine. If you’re one to dig into the BIOS and tinker, you’ll find it lacking. As far as warranty, I have not had to use it personally, but I know others who have had issues with their speed. Not exactly unexpected given where the support is.

It’s probably a good idea to buy from Amazon if you can since you can exchange the board immediately if you run into early issues. Though this product has been on the market a while, so it should be fine. A lot of these smaller makers do have issues (some software, some hardware) when the product first hits the market.

There should be a few threads on here if you search the non SE board.

Thanks for your reply and share your experience. I am not a tweaker but I do get into the UEFI Bios a little. My current Asus motherboard has the Q Code display for troubleshooting. I have been having A2 error code (IDE detect) the boot up sequence. To fix this, I have to disconnect all the drives and cables and reconnect them one at a time until I get one of the Linux OS’s to boot. I still cannot get all my drives to boot up the OS. I think that I am at the end of life for my current system. Hence, I am pondering putting together a new system. I was tempted due to the 16 cores of the BD790i and the low initial cost. However, I still have a few SSD and a storage HDD that I want to keep. Best regards.
