Mini PC for linux server

Hi @all,

I hope this is the right spot for this question. Should I be wrong, I apologize.
Looking for a mini PC to deploy a linux server.

Not sure how powerful it has to be. 2 webapps with at most 3 users at the same time.
Data transfer could grow in the future (Up- and Downloading Pictures)

Install Linux preferably without problems.
What do I need?

Any suggestion very welcome,
thank you in advance,
Regards,

I recently got a Minis Forum UM760 Slim for my bedroom TV. I have been very happy with it and paid $349 for it at microcenter. It does have a second M.2 slot internally which is a nice addition especially for the price. They are likely a little more elsewhere. I did add a second 16gb ram stick as it came with just a single one. It also runs cooler than I expected and is basically silent. It came with Windows but I installed Fedora 42 on it and only have a single issue that is not really an issue. It usually takes about a minute to wake from sleep. I did some research and others have reported the issue even with Windows. I think it or something similar would work for your needs.

I guess pretty much any “barebones” mini PC (those that come without RAM or disk included) should do the job.

You just mainly need to know the memory footprint of your two webapps and populate the RAM accordingly.

Same for disk - you need to know what storage required and whether you need fast NVMe or just a regular 2.5 inch SATA SSD suffice?

Also need to know what CPU (and GPU?) horsepower your two webapps will demand.

So I guess I mean to say if you answer these 3-4 areas (provide this info) then some relevant suggestions might be made by forum members

.

I have an intel i3 nuc with 16gb RAM and a 2tb 2.5inch SATA SSD and a RPi4b8gb with a 1tb SATA SSD as backup - I mostly run docker containers (mainly the Technitium DNS server) on an ubuntu 22.04 installation - and some cron jobs (to pull linux package archives for local mirroring) - nginx to host a minimal website - stuff like that.

welcome

Plenty of pliability
Whether a puny barebones build, opening up some long term outlook [ex. ASRocks X600]
Or going the route of Mini-PC, such as Minisforum, but do look at upgrade support [RAM/M.2s]
