Metro 2033 Redux on Linux hangs in menus

So I picked up the Metro Redux Bundle on Steam Summer sale and thought I'd try running it on Linux rather than Windows. So far I haven't done that with any game except Super Meat Boy which works perfect. When I first started it up, the loading screen took an incredibly long time. Once it loaded the main menu, the game just hung like it had crashed, except everything else was still going. After about a minute or so the game started moving again, but as soon as I opened the next menu, same problem. I cannot really run the game like this.
Specs:
AMD FX-8350
8GB RAM
Radeon R9 280X with latest proprietary drivers
ADATA SP920SS 256GB SSD
Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon
I've heard of problems with AMD graphics drivers on Linux before. Could it be I can't run it on AMD in Linux? I know Tear Free Desktop can give problems, so I've tried with that both enabled and disabled, but it made no difference. Haven't tried running it on Windows yet, but I'm off to bed for today, might try it in the morning.
If any of you could help me fix this that would be awesome as I much enjoy Linux, but if not... Well, that's why I kept Windows.
Thanks in advance and see you in the morning.

I have the card below you're so I'll give this a go some time when I'm home if no one else comes up with an answer.

Not sure if there is anything as I have not checkedutbchrck the pcgamingwîki.com

Here you go. It look likes a monitor issue http://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Metro:_Last_Light_Redux#Game_menu.2Fworld_doesn.27t_load_properly

Edit here is the metro.2033 page.

I forgot to mention, the game was also running in windowed mode on a rather small window. Unplugging my secondary monitor seemed to fix that issue, but everything else remains the same.

I used to run mint, but cinnamon is shit and crashed all the time so many issues with it and gaming, for me at least.

I am now on xubuntu and have 0 problems with gaming. I do not play redux edition but i do play last light, dying light, dota, csgo, civ 5 all work fine. i even had issue with gnome as well. but xfce no more problems.

So I changed my DE to XFCE but still get the same issue.

hmm. I'm not sure then, I am on nvidia so I cant really help with settings. Does amd have community drivers or do they only have the proprietary?

There are open source driver yes. I no nothing more than that.

They have open source drivers, but those don't support OpenGL4.0, so the game won't even run.
In other news, the game works fine on Windows 7. So definitely a Linux only issue.
