Meet Master Chief – My Dual Xeon Workstation

So a month or so back I was on this forum getting advice for building a hardcore workstation that could serve as a rendering powerhouse as well as a have RAM out the wazoo. Well now all the parts are in, the computer built, and the review weighed and I can officially say that this thing truly deserves the name "Master Chief" as it is a tank of a computer. With two 8-core Xeon E5-2630 v3 processors that can address up to 1024 GB of DDR4 RAM and Asus' latest Z10PE-D8 WS mobo which supports quad-linked GPUs I plan on being able to use and upgrade this workstation for years to come.

Needless to say it renders my 3D animations like a breeze and supports insanely large simulations. I also hand-picked the (currently single) GPU to best work with Adobe's Mercury Render Engine so that I can edit videos on the fly. As for gaming, I haven't tried much on it yet, but it seems to run Skyrim on the highest settings without breaking a sweat.

If you are interested you should check out my more in-depth review to get a full list of components and some tips for building a multi-CPU computer of your own. Until then, enjoy the build video.

looks pretty nice but why a 480ti graphics card why not a 980 i would be surprised if you cant afford that
ah never mind looks like a miss type

Its a typo for sure - can see a gtx 780 box.
Nice rig - cool cinebench scores.

Drat! You're right it is a typo...and on the video no less. Man, that is going to suck to fix...

By the way thanks for the kind comments. If anyone wants to use this build as a reference here is the pcpartpicker link: https://pcpartpicker.com/user/nmooth/saved/#view=hQz9TW
