Media PC (to substitute for PS4 and DVR)

Simple as that, not sure if I am going to go with linux or windows on it, maybe I'll dual boot. Either way I haven't actually done a build from the ground up yet (on account of funds) so any advice or suggestions (on parts mainly, I know what I'm doing otherwise) would be great. Cost cutting while maintaining the ability to play MOST games from the last few years is the goal with this one. Also yeah I know ODD doesn't need to be there, but it is a family computer for the living room.

This would run better and cooler.  The iGPU on the A8 won't be doing anything.  The Athlon X4 760k is an A10-6800k with the GPU disabled.  The GTX 750ti will output less heat and use less wattage, so your overall build will run quiet and cooler.  It also performs a lot better than a 7750.

Also, you might want to try the cases' stock fans before upgrading.  Sometimes the stock fans works alright.  And it's an expensive silverstone case, so I'm pretty sure the fans in it shouldn't be that bad.

+1 but with this GPU

... assuming it will fit... the case says it supports card up to 11"... this one's 9.5"... so should work...

Alright so how is this looking?

I want to stick with AMD so I can throw some mining at it when it isn't in use (but if there is a good reason to switch to a 750ti I will switch, I am looking at this one http://pcpartpicker.com/part/evga-video-card-02gp43757kr if I go that direction).

Raspberry Pi running Open ELEC XMBC

Really late in the game to start mining. Especially bitcoins. Seems dumb to buy a sub par system so you can lose money mining.

well the R7 265 is better on benchmarks than the 750ti from what I've heard... and it's cheaper than the model he pulled up... so it wouldn't be a sub-par system, however you're absolutely correct about the mining...

I didn't see the link there when I typed that post. Yes an R7 265 would nbe a bit better than the nVidia option.

More just saying you shouldn't let wanting to mine dictate your component choices because it is pretty much pointless

So how am I looking now?

Maybe with the larger case I should get a better cooler?

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/noctua-cpu-cooler-nhl12

whoa... that's a HUGE leap in budget... let's rewind... what's the budget? Do you care about form factor? I mean that was a pretty beastly build that I sacrificed some performance for just to get the Black/red color scheme... If you have the budget and don't care about the form factor, this is brand new ballgame...

Just so you know that Phantek cooler's a fantastic air cooler... as far as non-budget air coolers, I'd choose Enermax, Phantek and Noctua as the best of them... silent fans, a good bit better cooling than the "go-to on a budget" Hyper 212 EVO...

HAHA! Oops, I posted the wrong link, you were looking at your own build http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3erM1

the budget is ~800 preferably not over 775ish

Ahhh... yea that makes more sense... well for $15 more you could do this GPU... one more step up.... and you absolve yourself of form factor issues with that case for sure... (500w required PSU is a bunch of bullshit)

Here's a little prettier (IMO), better constructed case, if you're interested...

use promo code: EMCPGHW32 for an extra 10% off... (comes out to $44)

Alright, thanks to everyone for the pointers, for anyone that is curious this is the "final" link

of course it is subject to change because it will still be a month or more before I have the funds lined up.

I'm definitely happy with the price for what's in it.
