Mechanical Keyboard Corner

It’s done, took quite a bit of time and the films are sticking out a little, stabs could probably use a little more lube but it feels smooth, i’d say i’d actually like the tactile bump to be a little less, but i guess this is the compromise because i wanted the switch activation to be exactly at the end of the bump.

Looks really good.

i did this:

extreme patience and steady hand are a must for getting that metal strip back in place!
i ordered switches but the double clicking gets extremely annoying… just a couple of times click+dragging a window to move it ending up maximizing the window because of the click fail/double is possibly the worst thing lol.

@wendell are you going to get this one? I might sit it out, but… fomo. Looks like it’s cherry mount?

Fully sorted the SA I got.

No idea about the cream and orange at the bottom but there is a 2020 cap and what looks like a virus.
The purple and white at the bottom look like a Dragon Ball caps.
No idea about the pink and black ones, looks like monsters or something.
No idea about the green and white but they look nice.
The orange and grey are something Evangelion.
Then just random collections of other caps.

If anyone recognises them do say, I will ask around other places too.

The are still 5 more bags coming I think…

Edit: bonus PS caps

I had an old Dell Quietkey (decent rubber dome) which just got upgraded to my first mechanical keyboard - a Dell branded Model M! Its my first mechanical keyboard and I am loving it after only a couple of hours!

Anyone who is interested I found the Tuxedo caps again. They are the “pudding” double shot, or the Hyper X set, but instead it is a solid black bottom and solid white top no translucent or shine through. looks really slick.

I may have broken my used apple keyboard by accident. Looking at drop right now, but also looking at cheap stuff too like this Amazon listing:

I’m not a hard core gamer so I’m not too concerned with latency, so I’m also interested in wireless RGB keyboards with cherry blues or switches like them. Any suggestions?

My Anne Pro came with Outemu Blues and the V2 comes with Gaterons. It is 60% but wireless RGB and I love the original one, the 2 should surely be better right? Might be worth a look if you don’t mind the size. This is my travel keyboard and it holds up well.

Nice, gong to hunt down reviews. Looks like you can still get the cherry blues.

I’m loosing my mind I think. I am binging out on reviews and such, and casually checked out a cheap board on Amazon, memory recalls its some kind of Royal Kludge or knockoff but it had Japanese keycaps where the backlighting still filtered through. The reviews were a little rough about the firmware so I moved on.

I cannot find this keyboard now, even in my Amazon browsing history. Its as if they took it down. Its making me question my sanity lol.

I cannot find any keyboards short of like one youtube custom build that has Japanese keycaps that allow light through at least the English characters.

So I’m looking at this set:

OR these:

And still looking for a keyboard. Royal Kludge seems decent for the price, but ideally I would buy from a place that offers base kits that do not come with keycaps.

I’m figuring out some traits I would like:

  • not too high off the deck, I don’t want to require a hand rest
  • wireless would be nice
  • RGB 1337!!!
  • USB-C NOT on the side
  • 65% is really cutting it close, I don’t want to feel like I’m in VIM when I need a special character or F key
  • Ideally an 74%-84 key cause ^

GMMK Pro is catching my eye as a potential option, I dig the knob functionality and they can be had barebone. Not a fan of the side RGB though- I assume it can be turned off though.

If I can survive long enough on this temp dynex mush keyboard, the Keychron Q1 promising a knob version + white version sometime in Oct is looking promising. Bonus is there is a barebones option.

I don’t know how you peeps do it, so much choice, selection, but yet scarcity, incompatibility. This is Pandora’s box…

I got fomo and with how things go out if stock, or take forever to group buy, or just never get made again I went to got these in prep, knowing whatever I get will be compatible with cherry style caps.

Tonight, I’ll rest.

I went ahead and ordered it anyways, but I may end up sending it back. I just bought it because I liked the layout and thought the aluminum case might be nice. The gasket mount was less of a factor because I’ve never typed on one before → don’t know if I’m missing out or not. All my other keyboards are stiff as a board, so if I kill the bounce in that one by adding padding to deaden the sound I’m not super worried.

The one thing that is a bit of a bummer is that badge section… I’ll probably just put an additional key there, but knowing I won’t be able to add a knob if I wanted to kinda sucks. I don’t even necessarily have a use for it, but just knowing I couldn’t if I did!

*Should be noted that I don’t own any high end keyboards. So, this one not being up to custom keyboard standards might go unnoticed by me.
My boards consist of:
-Cooler Master QFR Stealth w/ MX Browns + Ducky PBT caps + multiple layers of rubber cabinet liner in the case to deaden the sound + lubed stabs
-Razer Huntsman Mini w/ dampened Razer Optical Red Switches - stock
-Epomaker GK61X w/ silent Alpacas + Drop PBT shine through caps [new to me as of this week]
-Corsair K65 w/ MX Reds - stock
-Corsair K63 w/ MX Reds - stock (this is in the lapboard from Corsair)

As a follow up to my previous post, here is the Epomaker keyboard I got this week.
First with the Ducky PBT caps off my QFR board, and then with the Drop PBT caps. I think I like it with the Ducky caps more, even though they aren’t shine through. The Drop caps aren’t as ‘black’ as the Ducky caps. I prefer the feel of the Ducky caps a tiny bit more too, but I think the Drop caps are ever so slightly thicker than the Ducky.

Was really excited for this until I saw the price tag :open_mouth:

I think that if @wendell can get a Model M + breakout board with qmk and usb 3.0 or better for less than $200 that’s a winner. I appreciate well made and engineered things, but $300 for a keyboard with some USB ports seems excessive to me. On top of that it is tenkeyless which I don’t particularly like as I use the NUM pad. A new production Model M is $104. I guess that the System76 is Aluminum which I guess if that matters to you then cool but I have run into some shitty aluminum products and some really nicely made plastic ones. All depends on how many corners they want to cut.

Anyways, I think that we can do better than System76 for cheaper.
