mATX AM3+ 970 motherboard from ASRock

Finally a mATX motherboard for AM3+ using the 9-series chipset is being released:

ASRock announced one of the very few AMD 9-series chipset based socket AM3+ motherboards in the micro-ATX form-factor, the 970M Pro3.

It would have been nice if this would have been released a long time ago. I may pick this up to use with my old FX-8150 to use as an HTPC.

5-phase CPU VRM

noises of uncertainty

But what do I know about designing power delivery systems?

Yeah I wonder about the quality of that, I think the ASUS 970 mobo has 6-phase vrm.

Hopefully, Tek Syndicate can their hands on one of these for a review.

I think Asrock just saw the market gap and decided to put something out there.

Not the most interesting product, but it's giving a half decent mATX option to people who want a smaller AM3+ system. Much better than the Asus 760G board.

I'm curious how the E-Series 8-Cores will Run on this. I need the Extra Cores.

Given that the 8xxx series of cpus in the fx line are crazy power hogs.. im pretty sure that board wont live long. See I think AMD provided a minimum power phase design for certfication but by no means is it recommended.. I would suggest something with 6+ or better yet 8 or 8+2 .. they are generally nicer and the VRMs run much cooler thanks to the distribution of power

Maybe, the FX cpus have been out a long time and board manufactures should know what they are doing with the power delivery. Making a board with a high RMA rate isn't going to be very profitable.

I wonder how hard it would be to out an 8 phase power delivery system on a mATX motherboard

It would probably make the board a lot more expensive, up there in price with the high end 990fx boards.

Maybe @wendell could get one of these from ASRock to test with his 8350 to see if there is any throttling.
