I am building a computer for a collegue who is a Mac user. What gpu do i need to give a really good mac os experience on Linux in vm. the buget is limited, so nothing priced to high.

If you can find it for cheap, a Saphire AMD RX 580 is fine and will run without any additional driver or kernel modules in a Mac OS VM. Please be aware a lot of used ones floating around have been used for Crypto mining and might not be in good shape.
I use a newer AMD RX 6600 with the appropriate kexts and boot arguments. The kexts should be supplied with the open core bootloader.
