KVM Model:
Quad Monitor / 2 Computer DisplayPort 1.4 KVM
USB Interface (5-gigabit or 10-gigbit):
10-gigbit
Problem:
I’m considering purchasing the Level1Techs Quad Monitor / 2 Computer DisplayPort 1.4 KVM with 10Gbps USB, but I’d like to confirm that it will support my planned monitor configuration before ordering.
Computer 1:
2025 Mac Studio — M3 Ultra
Computer 2:
2024 MacBook Pro — M4 Pro
Displays:
-
LG 45GX950A-B — 5120×2160 5K2K OLED, up to 165 Hz
-
Dell U2723QE — 3840×2160
-
Dell U2723QE — 3840×2160
-
ASUS ProArt portable monitor — optional fourth display
The Mac Studio would connect to the KVM using USB-C/Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort connections.
My main concern is the LG. I don’t necessarily need its full 165 Hz capability, but I would like to run it at 5120×2160 @ 120 Hz if possible while simultaneously driving the two Dell 4K displays.
A few questions:
-
Can the Quad DP1.4 KVM pass 5120×2160 @ 120 Hz using DSC from an M3 Ultra Mac Studio?
-
Can it do this while simultaneously driving the two Dell U2723QE 4K monitors?
-
Has Level1Techs tested this or a similar Apple Silicon + 5K2K/120 Hz configuration?
-
Are there any particular USB-C/Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort adapters or cables you recommend for this configuration?
-
Since this KVM does not use EDID emulation, what should I expect from macOS regarding monitor arrangement, resolution, and window positions when switching away from the Mac Studio and then switching back?
-
Is there anything else about this particular Mac/monitor combination that I should be aware of before purchasing the KVM?
The fourth ProArt display isn’t essential and would only be used occasionally. The important configuration is the 45" LG 5K2K plus the two Dell 4K monitors.
Thanks for any guidance.
