Low Frames in Chivalry?

My current setup is as follows

Radeon 7870

FX 4100

8gb RAM

While playing chivalry, my fps seems to drop fairly low (30-45) while on multiplayer, I've noticed that my GPU usage drops during these frame drops.

I have V-Sync disabled, and I have already manually removed the 62fps cap from the game. This did help with this problem, but I still feel like my machine should be getting better frame rates.

Is this normal for this hardware? Or should I be able to max this game no problem?

You shouldn't be able to max the game out. i have a 7870 i have a mix of high and medium settings. And removing the 60 fps limit might be causing it.

As many unreal engine games i have played, people have recommended not to remove the 60 fps cap as it might cause more problems.

Here is a screen shot of what settings i play on and i get a constant 60fps and it never drops.

Ehh, I got worse fps with the frame cap on, and I haven't had any glitches or bugs. Even with the cap on I got the drops, and I can live with them if it means keeping my settings maxed.

What bothers me is that my GPU usage in this game is low, even when I'm getting less than 60fps. Is there some way I can force it to 99%?

I get low usage on my gpu as well but doesn't affect me. And i don't think there is anyway to force it to 99%.

With similar settings : 1920x1200 no DOF and no SSAO I get 45-60 most of the time.

Chivalry is poorly optimized level design-wise. It's weird that you get that low fps with a 7970, must be the CPU then. The reason you have low GPU utilization is because the CPU is doing most of the work, and probably is bottlenecking. You shouldn't expect to hit full load in games except in some isolated cases (like really intensive scenes). Even crysis doesn't eat it all up, because of all of the overhead directx gives.

7870, not 7970. And in task manager my CPU doesn't go above 75%. So I don't think it's a CPU issue, unless the game can't take full advantage of my CPU because of it's architecture?
