I was reading somewhere tha the pricing is going to be something like 849 US dollars. Rumors ?
It's been known for awhile that R9 390X would be using the first generation HBM. Hopefully, the new design with the jump from GDDR5 32-bit bus to the HBM 1024-bit bus will make up for being limited to 4GB per GPU. The bandwidth jump is huge, 28 GB/s per chip on GDDR5 to 100-125 GB/s per stack of HBM. I still don't know that I will pay the rumored $849 for the card though unless the performance is out of sight.
Jesus, I can't justify over $400 on a GPU. Competing with Titan much?
Agreed!.....that would be ground breaking.
I think the 849 priced one was supposed to be in their new top tier card. One of the articles compared it to the way old ATI X800 platinum series (or something like that) and that version would get 8gb. Is it worth the money? According to the article it will be able to do 640 GB/s for memory bandwidth (vs. my Titan X's 336.5). How that will shake out in real world performance? Who knows.
The clock speed is also much lower ~500 MHz, and it drastically reduces heat. I see an overclocking monster if AMD can pull it off.
Keep in mind! Its rumors. In fact i went looking for the article again, to post it. I cant find it. So it has been edited out by now. It discussed the difference in the orginal 749 price. Again rumors until official release.I fully expect any new ram type to come at a premium. That is the real world.
Even though I just picked up a Titan X, I hope this is a monster card. We need that competition. My 2 cents regarding new tech (HBM/Stacked memory), wait until 2nd generation. Not to mention, something tells me Nvidia has something up their sleeves that they are holding on to. It will be fun to see what happens.
This is all very old rumours and news.
I don't think 4GB is that big of a limitation. At least for now. When Linus did the 21:9 surround video only Mordor pushed it over 4GB and it was just barely over anyway. Plus if DX12 lets you combine RAM when running multiple GPUs then it shouldnt be bad. So for now I don't think k it is too much of a problem.
More worrying is the rumor that this card will be $800 or more and that the cheaper $500 card will just be a rebranded R9 290X.
I think im going with the rumor that the the new 390x card is just a re-branded Hawaii chip with better performance and 8gbs of faster gddr5 memory.
the FIJI chip will be something else, similarly along the lines of nvidia's TITAN, with exorbitant pricing as well. maybe they'll call it the volcano pro or some shit.
i dont think the 4gb of HBM memory will be to much of a problem cause when cards encounter games that take more than the available VRAM the performance of the game suffers a bit. but since HBM bandwidth is such a huge leap, you might not encounter the performance penalty you do when using GDDR5 memory.
That's what I'm thinking, if what @knight26 said is true and the data path is 1024bit that's like going from a 2 lane dirt road to a 8 lane freeway it should make one hell of a improvement.
Rumors rumors.
Rumors rumors rumors, rumors rumors.
Rumors.
The large amount of vram on AMD cards previously is due to the increase in bandwidth that accompanied it, according to this. Because they are getting the bandwidth that they wanted now, they don't need to have the massive ram sizes. From what I am gathering, the drivers will help to make it so that the card is much more efficient with the memory it has available to it. Whereas in the past, because there was plenty of vram around (due to the increased bandwidth thing), the implementations weren't exactly efficient with regard to vram usage. Now that the bandwidth is there without the massive size, they are going to have to be more efficient now. Because of this, I have to question how games use vram now and how it has to be different between venders and even between different cards from the same vender, meaning that the vram measurements that we see on review sites are largely useless unless they tested the exact card that you are interested in. I don't know if I am explaining this too well, but it makes sense to me. Hopefully, we won't see any sort of limitation from this 4gb thing. We will ahve to wait and see, I guess.

I knew is wasnt seeing things. I found another article on the price of the next amd card. http://www.fudzilla.com/news/graphics/37790-amd-fiji-aims-at-849-retail-price?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
I herd base MSRP for the OEM 390x will be $599... We'll see.
Where did you hear that. I was hearing over 700....
But really, these rumors are dumb. We just need to wait and see. Only a bit longer.
The 8gb version is probably going to come out some months later.
The 4gb HBM is not a rumor it was announced by AMD week or so ago at one of there european fanancial conferences. Think I heard that on Jayztwo cent tech talk.
Also you cant compare 4gb of gddr5 vs 4gb HBM, it doesn't work that way.
When I look for these things on google I use the google news search not the web serch.
Lastely even if Nvidia does have something up there sleeve which they most likely do, its gonna be HBM in 2016. What ever it is it better be good because theres a real good chance AMD will be releasing a 395x2 in Q4 this year. That will be a monster card.
