I am brand new to the game. Like bought it played once and sucked but have a butt ton of fun. I want to get better and learn how to play competitively. Not go pro but how to play the ranked matchmaking queues. If anyone would like to help me (please) just let me know what you Steam name is.
From an experienced CS player, Comp is not the way to go.
Find a community server and get into a community, the CS Comp community doesn't do CS justice. Also, with community servers you can experiment with all of the mods and custom game types that are available. The communities within those servers are also generally really awesome. Once you learn how these communities are so great, you'll understand why CS1.6 and CSS still, even with GO being out, are almost always in the top 10 games played on steam at any given hour, globally.
I just got it as well (lol sale?) and have played it a bit - I wouldn't mind finding some people who I can play with semi-regularly. I mostly have been playing casual up to this point.
I personally enjoy the community at Casual Mature Gamers, I've been playing on their severs since around 2006/7 on CSS and I migrated to the CSGO servers with them when the game left beta. Great community. I'm also involved with [CaveDwellers] but their server is usually fairly empty. If you want to play the game in the classic game type, I don't know many servers for that however. CaveDwellers was my general go-to because they did GunGame and Classic, since it's gotten shallow with players I'm usually on CMG's various GunGame servers, and I think they have a classic server or two also. Every server within a community carries a different community generally, because of play type.
