Are you ln2 ocing? Or are you just doing it as a normy? My questions are about whether you need a beefy motherboard or not. If you are normy overclocking then just run precision boost over drive and call it a day. That way you don’t need a super expensive x570 board. That is my two cents. PBO or stock for a 3900x. With my experience I got to 4.2 all core with a 3900x or turbo non overclocking to 4.1ghz. 4.1 is not out of spec but 4.2 is.
Just order whatever is in stock.
I get as good performance and stability (and overclocks) from my 3700X on a TUF B450M board as I do on a Crosshair VIII Hero. Yes, the TUF runs a bit warmer, but certainly nothing that effects performance.
Yeah but you cannot really compare a 3700X to a 3900X,
in terms of actually current draw and there for power draw.
There is a significant difference in that regards.
Not every board has the vrm to properly handle the 3900X.
And also if you go high end on the cpu,
people shouldn’t really cheap out on the motherboard.
Aside from the vrm and build quality of a said board,
there is also something like the amount of features you want.
In my personal opinion when going high end on the cpu,
you generally don’t want to limit your system with an entry level motherboard.
Like i said for example the 3900X would work totally fine on something like,
the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite.
But that board is a bit bare bones on features, which is of course obvious for that price.
But yeah, i do think that people generally want to get the most out of their platform.
Still in my opinion people also should NOT really spend more then,
$350,- / €350,- to maybe 400 on a main stream board.
Those super duper expensive x570 boards like the Aorus extreme or Asrock Aqua,
just don’t make any sense for a mainstream platform with limited,
pci-e lane availability from the cpu.
Im just doing normal over clocking. I am not doing any fine tuning.
Thanks for all of the information. B&H says the Auros Master is expected to be in June 2nd and the Tomahawk is expected to be in stock June 15th. So if that actually happens then I guess I will be getting the master.
Auros Master on New Egg Business right now for $350. I just picked one up.
