Got a 1U server (DL360G9), and I’d like to add in a video card for a secondary VM, I am running a P4000 in the main 16x, and I have my storage attached via the 8x, that leaves me the AUX PCIe x16 its half height, and I need single slot.
So I have a I am looking for a half height card, but I have the option of adding something that has a 6 or an 8 pin if it needed it (or added performance)
And I would like something within the last generation or two, but I can’t really find anything. I am also willing to buy a card and customise it for this case too.
Right now I am thinking: Tesla P4 (GP104), Quadro A2 (GA107),Tesla T4 (TU104), AMD Radeon Pro W6400.
It going to be mostly used in this VM to do some light desktop video cap, and some transcoding for streaming. There is also a strong case that I will use this card for hobbyist AI compute on night and weekends, or when the VM isn’t needed.
Yea I read up on the WX3100, its pretty low end its like a 1050 or so in terms of performance and its still on lexa architecture, so its a bit long in the tooth, I think a W6400 would be a better buy over all.
I am leaning hard towards the A2 (1500USD) its effectively a 3050 under the hood. but I had hopes there might be something a bit cheaper, so price might move me to a P4 (900USD).
But I had hope that the crazy guys in L1T might had a secret GPU or some kind of franken combo that might work.
Sounds like the perfect use case for the Intel A380. No, not the plane (it’s an Airbus and rather large) but the Intel Arc dGPU. Linus made (released) a video about it just yesterday:
Thank you. I like this idea a lot… But looking at the specs page - * Intel Arc Graphics products require a Resizable BAR enabled system. I don’t think this is supported on my server.
